Exclusionary Criteria
1. Severe Mental Illness Diagnosis
2. Mental Health History includes suicide attempts or Psychotic disorder
3. Criminal History includes conviction of violent crime, murder, rape or sex offender
*Up With Life reserves the right to evaluate each candidate on a case by case basis.
Screening
UWL staff will participate with multi-agency corrections staff to identify and screen potential applications. The results secured from their initial evaluation and assessment will be used to identify suitable candidates. UWL will then meet with the candidate to conduct additional assessments and possible intake. Upon completion and meeting eligibility criteria, the candidate will participle in an orientation with program staff to determine program suitability. Each candidate must provide valid identification and any other credentials deemed necessary during the screening process.
*Immediately following orientation, candidates will be placed on restriction until lifted by staff.
Phase 1: 1-6 Months Orientation
Each candidate will receive a comprehensive introduction to our program in which the following elements in the most dynamic manner. Candidates will receive a clear and defined outline of what needs to be accomplished in order to move on the next phase of his or her life. Residents will move from the initial skill development phase to housing placement and will be required to begin looking for employment. Substance and alcohol abuse treatment will be available for those candidates that will need this support.
Phase II: 6-9 Months Life Skills Training and Educational Opportunities
Candidates will be expected to have excelled in phase I of the program at this time. Candidates will be required to improve in life skills and/or higher education as well as preparing a network of support that will be available upon completion of the program.
Phase III: 9-12 Months Graduation
Candidates will have completed the program designed by Up With Life, but will now begin to work the program of life. We will follow up with the graduate to ensure their success in life and show our continued support. We are committed to being winners at life.
